Chesapeake Arts Center’s (CAC’s) ninth annual Arts in the Park Free Festival will take place on September 30, 2023 from 10 am-3 pm (rain date October 1, 10 am-3 pm). This FREE community event will be held in front of CAC’s Hammonds Lane Theatre (adjacent to Brooklyn Park Middle School). The event will feature fun, creative, and interactive activities for all ages, live music and performances, over 60 art and community vendors, and local food truck favorites.

Read MoreChesapeake Arts Center (CAC) announced a new partnership with Encore Creativity, the nation’s largest choral organization for adults 55 and older. Encore is launching a choral group at Chesapeake Arts Center to serve residents in Brooklyn Park and Northern Anne Arundel County. The group will meet at CAC on Tuesdays from 10:30 am to noon beginning September 6. The cost to join the choral group is $190/15 week semester. Scholarships are available to ensure all local residents have access to the group.

Out of an abundance of caution for students, instructors, and patrons, CAC will be cancelling all classes and open studios until April 30th. Our facility will be closed and is undergoing a thorough cleaning. Normal classes and activities will resume on Saturday May 1st.

Read MoreThe Chesapeake Arts Center will be closed until Saturday, October 17, 2020. Last week, a CAC staff member was exposed to COVID and today received a negative result. According to CDC guidelines, that staff member will be quarantining for the next 14 days. While the exposed staff member does not have any direct contact with students and has not been in CAC classrooms or studios in months, CAC is taking every precaution to maintain the health and safety of all who enter our building.

Read MoreThe CAC staff are excited to be back in our building -- on a limited basis -- to finalize plans for our summer classes and programs.
CAC will start a few classes the week of July 6 with additional classes added each week. Even though CAC staff are in the building, it remains closed to the public -- only staff and registered students after (July 6) will be allowed in the facility. While we would like to see everyone, for the health and safety of all, we must adhere to this “NO WALK-IN” policy for the near future.

Read MoreOn Thursday, March 12, more than 60 friends, donors, and supporters gathered in CAC’s MakerSpace to celebrate a milestone event: the dedication and naming of the MakerSpace in memory of Michael Stanley.
Stanley, who passed away in 2019, was the son of Kenneth Stanley, founder of Stanley Engineering in Glen Burnie, who in December 2019 donated $100,000 to Chesapeake Arts Center (CAC). At the event, the new Michael Stanley MakerSpace name and logo was unveiled.

Taking care of our patrons is an essential part of our organizational culture. In accordance with those values and following the policies of Anne Arundel County Public Schools and the State of Maryland, the Chesapeake Arts Center is closing the facility starting on Friday, March 13, 2020 at 5:00pm through March 27, 2020. This means all CAC programs, after school programs, classes, rental events, and open studios will be postponed. Please stay tuned for more information on possible makeup classes from the Education Department.

Our staff is working proactively to address concerns regarding the spread of influenza and COVID-19 (coronavirus) throughout the Chesapeake Arts Center. Following the guidance of the CDC, we have increased our cleaning routines in our facility, including frequent wiping of door handles, sink knobs, and stair rails. We are monitoring and working with Anne Arundel County Public Schools (the owner of our building) on policies and procedures to ensure the continued health and wellness of our students, patrons, and staff….
