Brooklyn Park, Maryland, June 19, 2020 — Chesapeake Arts Center (CAC) has received a $24,250 grant from the Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County (CFAAC) to support family and children’s programming as part of CAC’s Michael Stanley MakerSpace. The award comes from the Fund for Anne Arundel, a fund of CFAAC.

The grant funds will support the expansion of CAC’s MakerSpace STEAM-related education programs (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math). The grant will enable CAC to expand free monthly MakerSpace Family workshops from once a month to twice each month; monthly workshops serve about 100 individuals enabling CAC to double its audience for these activities. The grant will also support new free workshops for students ages 6-16 in CAC’s new STEAM Lab, slated to open in September 2020. The STEAM lab will be outfitted with a wide variety of arts and technology materials to foster invention and play. As part of the grant, CAC will create a variety of opportunities where students can design, paint, build, draw, tinker, and experiment in both structured and free play workshops.

Donna Anderson, Executive Director of CAC, said, “Through the Community Foundation’s Fund for Anne Arundel, CAC will be able to serve thousands more local students and families with innovative, inspiring, and most importantly, free programs in the year ahead. We are grateful for the Community Foundation’s support for these free programs which will ensure equal access to the arts for all students and families in our community.”
