Arts Administrative Coordinator
The Chesapeake Arts Center’s Arts Administrative Coordinator is the first point of contact between the Education Department and customers, and must uphold high standards of excellence in customer service and support of CAC’s programs and services. The Education Coordinator helps manage various arts education programing throughout the year which serves hundreds students of all ages.

Minimum 1-2 years experience in arts education program management
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to approach challenges in a supportive and creative manner
Experience working with children
Strong computer skills: knowledge of Google Drive and other standard business technology is required.
Eager to work in a fast-paced, arts and education-focused environment
Bilingual – Spanish/English is preferred
Ability to manage multiple programs simultaneously and meet deadlines on a consistent schedule

Manage student registrations, rosters, and payment through Canvas software system
Manage the educational portion of the CAC website, including input of classes and subscriptions in the
Canvas software system, and ensuring all information on the website is correct and up-to-date
Regularly communicate with students with class information, changes in schedule, etc
Coordinate with instructors about enrollment of students, programs, and schedules; Assist instructors with finding substitutes, as needed.
Create/collect class evaluations and course surveys
Coordinate after-school programs and other outreach programs, including recruitment; communication with schools, instructors, and families; provide on-site support to ensure smooth education program operations and provide instructor assistance
Coordinate summer camp program, ensuring student paperwork is complete and instructors are prepared; communicate with students and families regarding the program; provide on-site support to ensure smooth camp operations and provide instructor assistance, as needed
Offer administrative support, as needed, to the department chairs and MakerSpace
Provide administrative support including answering phones, managing daily business data, confirming schedules with students and teachers, and directing CAC visitors
Manage supply purchasing and organization for all classes, workshops, and camps
Manage the CAC google calendar with updated class schedules/ open studio
Assist instructors with setup of classes, and clean/organize classrooms as necessary
Assist with Educational productions and events including dance recitals, theatre shows, and gallery shows
Assisting with classes/workshops/camps, as needed
Assisting the Education Director with overall programming, class and workshop creation
Be stationed at the front desk to answer the door and phone
Be stationed at the front desk to answer any patron questions and ring up ceramics and any other sales

Friday 10am-6pmTypical schedule for various semesters is above, however hours may vary based on programming and event needs.
This is an in-person position, however, the Education Coordinator can work remote on Fridays unless otherwise specified.

Ceramics Instructor
The CAC Ceramics Department provides a creative and supportive environment that fosters the development of hands-on ceramics skills and artistic expression. Our Ceramics Program features a kiln room, glaze room, and three studio classrooms—one dedicated to handbuilding and two for wheel throwing and handbuilding.
We serve a diverse community of students, from children to adults, and from beginners to intermediate makers.

CAC is seeking part-time, contract-based Ceramics Instructors for adult students specializing in:
Handbuilding Pottery
Wheel Throwing
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong experience in clay techniques, teaching, and safe studio practices. They should be able to create an inclusive and welcoming environment for beginners and intermediate students alike.
This position reports to the Ceramics Chair.

Instruction:
Teach fundamental handbuilding techniques (coil, slab, pinch) and/or wheel-throwing methods in a clear, organized, and supportive manner.
Technical Guidance:
Provide instruction in wedging, forming, glazing, decorating, and finishing techniques.
Studio Management:
Ensure the studio is cleaned and reset after each class. Instruct students in proper cleanup procedures and shared studio etiquette.
Curriculum Development:
Develop lesson plans appropriate for beginner to intermediate students. Collaborate with the Ceramics Chair to plan semester-based courses.
Student Support:
Offer constructive feedback, encourage artistic exploration, and promote proper body mechanics to prevent injury. Foster an inclusive and welcoming classroom environment.
Safety Adherence:
Enforce all studio rules and safety protocols.
Communication & Preparation:
Communicate regularly with the Ceramics Chair regarding equipment, materials, and class needs. Prepare materials and demonstrations in advance of each class.

CAC is looking for an instructor to start this summer, but for most semesters classes are typically 2 hours long and scheduled within the following time blocks:
Weekdays (Mon–Thurs): 10:30 AM – 9:00 PM
Weekends (Sat–Sun): 10:30 AM – 3:00 PM
(CAC is closed on Fridays.)

Summer Camp Instructor

We are seeking energetic, and reliable Instructors to support our Summer Camp Program for students in Grades 1st-8th. Summer Camps run for 6 weeks from June 22nd- July 30th. Each summer camp runs for one week from Monday to Thursday.
