Of Light and Shadow captures the hidden magic of forests while also inviting viewers to reflect on their own relationships and support systems. At the core of Loncar’s art practice lies a fascination with trees. Her large-scale drawings and collages are inspired by recent discoveries about tree life, including their ability to smell, taste, touch, sense danger, and communicate with one another. In Of Light and Shadow, she specifically focuses on the quiet interdependency of root systems, using them as a model for how humans may better support one another through times of hardship or change. The anthropomorphic roots in her collages even resemble human hands, transporting viewers directly into the work. Together, these pieces explore a broader theme of community and emphasize how individuals can come together to care for one another.

Ellis Island served as the portal for immigrants coming into the USA from 1892 to 1954. Before its closing, an estimated 12 million people passed through on their way to a new life in America. This one-hour musical geared towards young audiences captures the essence of their journey. A wonderful supplement to the school curriculum, Ellis Island artfully tells the story of how our ancestors began to call America their home. Today, many US citizens are descendants of those same immigrants. Because it relates to current events, audiences are in rapt attention as they relate to characters in the show.

Midnight Marauder delves into the enigmatic realm of nighttime exploration, where shadows dance with moonlight and secrets whisper beneath the stars. Through a collection of evocative artworks, the exhibition invites viewers to embark on a journey through the mysterious allure of the midnight hour. Drawing inspiration from Josef Albers' exploration of color theory, Midnight Marauder dynamically shifts from stark black-and-white line art to vibrant hues, exploring the emotional resonance and depth that color evokes. Each piece immerses the audience in a dreamscape where imagination knows no bounds and reality blurs with fantasy, echoing the enigmatic spirit of the night.

The term "recycled art," describes the practice of producing art out of materials that have been rejected and considered waste. Recycled art is a moving combination of artistic expression and environmental responsibility in a world where people are becoming more aware of their environmental impact. It's a global movement that unites artists around the same objective of repurposing the trash of our society to create art and making potent statements of social change. Waste and Wonder will enhance commonplace items that are disregarded and emphasize their importance to the wellbeing of our planet.
This exhibit is on view in our Hal Gomer Gallery from November 11, 2024 - January 9, 2025.
