After the recent loss of my brother, I have been focusing on art to express my dark emotions with a smile on my face. I received a degree from Morgan State University in Fine arts and consider myself an abstract artist. Think after you feel in the presence of my pieces.

Artist: Nikita Yogaraj : Nikita is an Baltimore-based Tamil Indian-American artist. The daughter of immigrant parents who grew up in multiple cities in the US, she is a primarily self-taught artist who has also worked in public health disparities. Her linoprint and mixed media pieces pair bold color combinations with linocut printmaking techniques. Through creating intricacies via suggesting texture and pattern - especially where they are invisible in the everyday, she likes to invite the viewer to sit in the details and patterns rather than labeling the subject. She takes the tradition of portraiture and integrate it with the styles of protest posters, and graphic fiction and nonfiction storytelling, all of which she has been inspired by for her work through their aesthetic and use as medium for social justice commentary. The Protect our Elders piece was developed to highlight that before and during the pandemic, elders of color have been a target for racial violence, adding onto their vulnerability, including South Asian and other brown elders following 9/11, and East Asian elders during the pandemic. Respect our elders. Protect our elders.
