The Chesapeake Arts Center community is saddened to share that Patricia Barland passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 13. The CAC Board and staff will miss Pat dearly and are keeping her family in our thoughts and prayers. The newly named Patricia Barland Gallery at CAC will provide a lasting legacy of Pat’s deep commitment to the arts and her long-standing support of CAC and our community.

I truly believe that the arts open doors for everyone young and old and enrich our lives in so many ways. I am honored and grateful for this recognition that I hope will inspire others to support the arts in our community and at CAC.

Chesapeake Arts Center Names Exhibit Gallery in Honor of Long-Time Donor and Former Board Member Patricia Barland

September 30, 2024 -- Chesapeake Arts Center (CAC) is pleased to announce the naming of one of its exhibit galleries in honor of long-time donor and past CAC Board member, Patricia Barland. In recognition of Barland’s unwavering commitment, generosity, and invaluable service to CAC, the former Gallery 194 will be renamed the Patricia Barland Gallery.

Barland has been a steadfast supporter of CAC for nearly 20 years, serving as a member of the Board of Directors from 2009-2015, playing leading roles in the planning and support of community outreach events, arts education programs, and fundraising activities. Her advocacy and cumulative and ongoing generous gifts to CAC have helped foster creativity and expand access to the arts and left a lasting impact on both CAC and the wider community.

“We are deeply honored to name this gallery in Pat’s honor. Her generous gifts and valuable commitment to our artistic mission for so many years have helped shape CAC into the vibrant cultural hub it is today,” said Donna Anderson, CAC’s Executive Director. “By dedicating this space in her honor, she will continue to inspire artists, students, and visitors for generations to come.”

A long-time Pasadena resident, Pat had an extensive professional career before retiring in 2012, including more than 30 years in Anne Arundel County government, including as a senior planner in the Department of Planning and Zoning. She worked on a variety of revitalization and commercial efforts across the county, including the Glen Burnie Town Center, the Odenton Town Center, and efforts to create a Brooklyn Park arts district.

In addition to her many years on the CAC Board, Pat has served in other volunteer capacities including as the Chair of the Four Rivers Heritage Area, as a Board member of Anne Arundel Community College Foundation, as a volunteer on the Glen Burnie Town Center Committee, and as a founding member of Anne Arundel Women Giving Together.

The newly named Patricia Barland Gallery at CAC will host year-round exhibitions and related education programs that support CAC’s mission “to foster creativity, create connections, and inspire joy by delivering innovative and accessible arts and education programs.” CAC has many naming opportunities for arts spaces at varying gift levels – ranging from our two theaters to classrooms and art studios; information is available by contacting CAC’s development department at 410-636-6597.

An official naming ceremony for the new Patricia Barland Gallery is being planned for a later date.
