Artist: Sheela Belur:
I am a retired aerospace professional with a doctoral degree in mathematics and worked in the field of Aerospace and Information Assurance areas for a number of years. I was born and raised in India, and I immigrated to the USA about 30 years ago. After retirement, encouraged by my daughter who is a very talented portrait artist, and an opportunity provided by our local senior community center, I got into painting. I have been painting off and on for about 6 years now. I paint mainly because I find it relaxing.
I have taken some art classes organized under our local senior center. During that time I actively participated in organizing a community art exhibition where I displayed some of my acrylic and watercolor paintings along with my classmates. I also have a Facebook page where I post some of my paintings and photographs. Most of my landscape paintings are from looking at the photographs which I take when I go on walks outdoors. Some of my other paintings are inspired by Hindu scriptures. I paint in watercolor, water-based oil and in acrylics.

Artist: Marty Spence : I did not touch a pencil until the age of 50. I never had an art class or any art instruction in any level of school. At the age of 50 I invited a friend to take a drawing class with me at CCBC- Catonsville campus. We had a wonderful instructor named Laimons EGlitis. Mr. EGlitis encouraged me to attend MICA. I was terrified to even walk into the door. However I followed Mr. EGlitis's instinct and, my desire. I was only able to take one course per semester. The 6P-9P classes was pushing it for an otherwise full time employee. I continued that pursuit for the next five years resulting in a certificate from MICA. At that juncture I had accepted even more working responsibilities requiring twenty-four hour commitment for every day of the year. The study of art would have to be completely independent with periods of silence until 2014 when I began weekly group lessons via Zoll Studio in Timonium, Md. Finally, in 2017 I was able to throw myself in and began studying privately with Barbara Kiwak. Like the rescue horse in Maryland Strong, I continue to follow my passion and have never given up.
