In the Studio with Pam Williams
Pam Williams is the Finance Administrator at CAC, which means she spends her days in the office handling anything finance or HR-related. She’s also a published writer, radio host, speaker and consultant and currently pursuing her Ph.D as well as a wife, mother and grandmother to the cutest grandbabies around. We asked her about finding her voice and inspiration to do it all:
On discovering she was a writer: When I was in the 2nd grade, I won 1st place in a writing contest. My story was entitled “The Magic Balloon.”
On her love of writing: Writing has always come easy to me. I could write my college papers in a day, sometimes a couple hours. This led to me stretching out and writing a book. And then 3 more books. I am currently working on book #5. Besides, I love words!
On finding inspiration from within: I have overcome so much that it pushes me to keep going. I have overcome seizures as a baby, domestic violence, low self esteem issues, teenage pregnancy, and advanced congestive heart failure. I believe I am my own hero. Despite life’s adversities, I have persisted to keep achieving and becoming all I can be.
On regaining confidence through performance: The scar from my open heart surgery blew my confidence. One day, I stumbled upon the Dreamwalk Fashion Show, that was part of NYC Fashion Week in 2019. It was made up of people from across the world that have visible and invisible disabilities. Something told me this was my chance to regain my confidence and get back in the game! When I was accepted as a model, I still hesitated and got scared. Once the day arrived and I walked into the Gramercy Theater in NYC, I felt like a star. I met lots of intriguing people from all over the world who had disabilities like me but their confidence was through the roof. We were given professional makeovers and photos and I ripped the runway with a live band. It was an experience I will never forget!
The fashion show showed me I was still beautiful despite the scar that goes dow the middle of my chest. Instead of trying to hide the scar, I’ve learned to flaunt it and it becomes a conversation starter!
Advice for others with a dream: Go for it. All anybody can say is NO. The next person may say YES!
