In the Studio with Edward Taylor
Edward Taylor graduated from the Maryland Institute College of Art, Baltimore, Maryland in 1993. Edward is a versatile artist who works in several mediums and has taught visual arts classes and summer camps at the Chesapeake Arts Center for several years. His latest series of work from 1993-2018 was called "Behind the Mask" and 2019- Present, "Beyond the Mask."
On always being an artist: I loved to draw growing up and I just always knew I was an artist. I loved going to art classes through the years in school, so much so that I made it into my career.
On the joys of teaching: I have instructed art in private and public institutions over 20 years. The wonderful smiles I receive from students and parents about their artworks are the greatest gifts.
On finding inspiration: I am constantly inspired by my world. I use my work to express my feelings through several mediums. I always tell emerging artists to continue to do what they love!
On his recent body of work titled “Beyond the Mask”: (Note: this body of work was completed before the pandemic) This is a body of work that is about humanities. It is cutting edge in that has its own voice and its own way. I interview a person with a write up, then paint their picture and both pieces are displayed. Individuals of the audience can’t just look at one but two of what the volunteer has to share. It is something different and something out of the ordinary.
