About Angela Wilson

Angela Wilson is a playwright, director and the founder The Angel Wing Project, Inc.(AWP), a non-profit performing arts organization with a mission to “positively impact our community by providing uplifting, entertaining shows and events to inspire appreciation for and participation in the arts.”

The AngelWing Project became a non-profit organization in 2015 and began operating in 2016. The journey has been amazing thus far, because the AngelWing Project has touched many lives since they began.

Angela is married with two grown children and two amazing grandsons. Most of her career has been in Human Resources; most recently, as the Director of Diversity and Organizational Development.

A natural teacher and artist, Angela found her niche in plays that are based loosely on actual events and she makes sure that there is a lesson or many lessons to be learned from her stories.

Angela has always been creative and artistic with a penchant for the performing arts. Growing up she performed on a regular basis, singing, and acting as a child, taking drama classes in high school, and continuing to act and sing into her adult years. As a young mother and wife, she also wrote poetry, skits and plays for her church.

She realized more and more that she really had a “gift” for writing, directing and producing several years ago after producing bigger and bigger shows at her church. She says that after doing it for many years, she started to find her voice, understand her style, and approach and realized that she had something important to say. Near the end of 2014 after attending a life-changing spiritual retreat, she realized she had to do more with her gifts. She established her business, became a 501c (3) organization in 2015, researched performing arts organizations and wrote her first grant proposal for AWP in 2016. She stepped out on faith armed with her plan and asked a few friends to help and that is how The AngelWing Project was born. It has been a roller-coaster ride with many, many more highs than lows but lots of hard work. She is now a resident theater company at the Chesapeake Arts Center and has become an award-winning playwright for her popular play, Tears of the Soul.

The AngelWing Project is not only a performing arts organization but another core value is giving back to the community. AWP has participated with several organizations through drives and fundraisers and even on-site service to help those in need. Some examples are, Sarah’s House, Arundel House of Hope, My Sister’s Place, Hope for All and Westport AME Church’s Winter Relief program where they prepared and served Thanksgiving Dinner to about 40 homeless men and sang for them. For these agencies they have provided linens, towels, washcloths, blankets, hats and gloves, socks underwear; whatever the need was. It has been a blessing to be a blessing to others.

Angela recently made another faith step by starting her own consulting business and leaving her 9-5 job. AW Consulting, LLC is a training and development consulting company, and she is already serving clients. She states that after much soul searching, she came to a point where she realized, hard work isn’t as hard when you are doing what you love to do, and you are living your purpose.

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused her to be even more innovative and look at ways to perform and share information in an online format. She has began creating videos and putting them on her website under her new program, the AngelWing Creative Learning Project. She looks forward to creating virtual courses for those who want to learn about performing arts – primarily theater.

This is the advice she gives to aspiring artists and performers: “Understand what makes you unique, what is your original perspective on things, and then figure out how can you say that story to the world through your artistic abilities.”

Angela says that she is out here trying to make the world a better place through art and giving back. She offers another perspective that maybe someone has not seen. While there is nothing new under the sun; she believes that what makes someone a true artist is that he or she is always finding new and different ways to express life.
