Visions and Voices

An Exhibition by Sharon Attaway

February 21, 2023- April 11, 2023

OPENING RECEPTION - March 16, 2023 6 - 8 pm

Chesapeake Arts Center is very pleased to announce Visions and Voices, a solo exhibition of work by painter Sharon Attaway. Coinciding partially with Her Voice, Her Vision, this exhibition highlights Sharon’s breathtaking resin pours and oil portraits.

About Sharon: “Over the years my artwork has been diverse in subject matter, mediums, and style. Even today I sometimes paint portraits and at other times create abstracts in resin. The “Voices and Visions” exhibit captures that diversity.

The portraits with bronze resin backgrounds depict a number of African American women who have achieved success in their fields. Other portraits are included of men and woman who I was inspired to paint. A few of the portraits are compositions that have a specific viewpoint.

The abstract paintings are colorful resin artwork that appeal to the emotions. I enjoy the brilliant colors and the depth of layers that can be created. Some of these resin pieces have acrylic markings to add a level of interest. This method of pouring resin on my substrate is my favorite technique and will be featured more in upcoming exhibits.

The “Voices and Visions” exhibit presents my latest works of art and shows the diversity of my creations. As artists, we are all special in our own way. No one is less than or more than another. In this exhibit I give of my special talents to you.”

The exhibit is on view in our Gallery 194 from February 21, 2023- April 11, 2023.
