Contract Position – Fund Development Consultant 


The Chesapeake Arts Center (CAC) is a vibrant and affordable multi-disciplinary arts center providing arts education and literary, visual, and performing arts events. CAC is a 58,000 square foot communitydriven performing arts center. With three semesters of classes, a large ceramics studio, and 70,000 visitors a year, we are the creative hub of the Brookline Park community. Our coordinated approach among students, families, businesses, county government, the public school system, community partners, donors, and the community helps to build and sustain a safe, healthy, and thriving community.

Anchoring the front of Chesapeake Arts Center is Hammonds Lane Theatre; a professional non-union “road house” with the ability to host graduations, concerts, theatre or dance performances, and lectures. Located at the rear of our facility is Studio 194; a small intimate space with the ability to host smaller productions, concerts, meetings or lectures, and rehearsals. The Hal Gomer Gallery is a core component of the Chesapeake Arts Center's experience, bringing artists of all disciplines to our center. And, the Chesapeake Arts Center MakerSpace is a collaborative workspace designed to enhance a hands-on learning experience, bringing technology tools unto the hands of out community, and fostering an environment for invention and play.

We are seeking a kind, dedicated, energetic, and exceptionally organized part-time Fund Development Consultant to serve as an integral member of our small and mighty team. Working closely with the Chief Executive Officer/Executive Director (CEO/ED) you must have a growth mind-set, a passion for children and families, arts and culture, nonprofits, fundraising, and building community.

In partnership with the CEO/ED, Board of Directors, and organizational consultant, the Fund Development Consultant is responsible for establishing the first comprehensive fund development plan and infrastructure to support raising approximately $100,000 in funds the first year.

• Strong interpersonal and writing skills.

• Notable attention to detail, organizational and time management skills.

• Ability to handle multiple assignments, meet deadlines, and exhibit follow through on tasks and goals.

• Have knowledge and experience in fundraising techniques, including relevant communications, understanding budgets and related fundraising implications. • Possess the skills to work with and motivate staff, board members, and other volunteers. • Be a “self-starter” and goal driven to initiate donor visits and fundraising calls for the CEO/ED.

• Display maturity, emotional intelligence, and a positive attitude, show concern for people and community, demonstrate presence, self-confidence, common sense, and good listening ability.

• Ability to keep and maintain confidential and secure records and information.

• Demonstrated Microsoft Office and Excel competence.

• Bachelor’s degree or 3-years minimum experience in professional fundraising preferred.


• Collaborate with the CEO/ED on developing, maintaining, and monitoring the annual development plan and calendar to ensure year-round engagement and stewardship of donors.

• The plan will include a phased implementation approach to identification, cultivation, and solicitation for key fundraising initiatives.

• Monitor and ensure the appropriate follow up occurs with donors and other supporters.

• Process donations, generate and track tax-receipts and acknowledgement letters, ideally within 48 hours (a very manageable pool of donors at this time).

• Oversee grant seeking including research, proposal writing, and reporting requirements. • Collaborate with the Events Manager and assist with program event logistics as requested.

• Demonstrate professional conduct at all times.

• Perform other related duties as requested.


One-year contract based on an average of 20 – 25 hours per week. Contract fee to be negotiated based on experience and qualifications.
