Opening Reception

CHESAPEAKE ARTS CENTER

Thursday, September 16 from 5-7pm
THE GALLERY at CHESAPEAKE ARTS CENTER

Chesapeake Arts Center is honored to announce an exhibition of art by the late Hal Gomer. The exhibition will include drawings, paintings, and prints from throughout Gomer’s career, some of which will be for sale. The show will run through November 12th, with an opening reception on Thursday, September 16th from 5:00-7:00pm.

Hal Gomer passed away a year and a half ago. He was a gifted artist, educator, mentor and connoisseur of the arts. “This is an opportunity to celebrate the work and life of an amazing artist and person,” said Davina Grace Hill, CAC Executive Director. “It is appropriate that we show his work here in the building where he taught art to the community for so many years and where he served on CAC’s Board of Directors.”

Joe Gold, Kevin Hodges and Lynne Battaglia, will curate the exhibition.

    Big Blow and the Bushwackers
CAC TRADITIONAL & FOLK MUSIC CONCERT SERIES

Saturday, September 18 at 8:00pm
STUDIO 194 THEATRE
Tickets: $15 ($12 CAC Members)

Kicking off the fall CAC Traditional & Folk Music series, Big Blow and The Bushwackers bring their incredible showmanship and over-the-top stage show to CAC. What began as an improbable duo of mandolin player Ted Porter and PVC-pipe didjiriduist Tim Whittemore, quickly evolved into a quintet that blended folk and world music with both the comedic and the surreal. And the music always has a Celtic undercurrent.

Not the typical band, it’s hard to categorize the band’s music. One fan described it as “They Might Be Giants meets Pink Floyd.” The Washington Times wrote “...envision a gang of Aborigines hijacking an Irish pub.” Ted Porter simply called it “rock and roll!”
